SAEDNEWS: North Korea Tests Advanced Cluster Warhead for Strategic Cruise Missile Capable of Hitting Targets Across a 6-Hectare Area
According to Saednews, North Korea has tested a cluster warhead designed for a strategic cruise missile, which developers claim can strike targets across an area of up to six hectares, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported.
"The medium-sized cluster warhead mounted on the cruise missile has been confirmed to be capable of destroying targets through concentrated strikes over an area of 5–6 hectares," the North Korean Missile Administration said in a statement.
The tests, conducted on November 2, also evaluated the missile’s performance during a vertical approach toward its target. According to KCNA, improvements to the missile’s terminal-phase maneuverability have enabled it to carry out such attacks while accounting for the natural and geographical characteristics of the deployment area.
The tests were overseen by General Kim Jong Sik, a member of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea and first deputy department director of the party’s Central Committee.
The North Korean Missile Administration emphasized the importance of continuing to develop various weapons systems to protect the country against external threats. It added that the latest tests were part of a scheduled research and development programme aimed at improving the combat effectiveness of the country’s missile systems.
