SAEDNEWS: Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly denounced US sanctions policies, stating that all countries are required to refrain from enforcing unlawful sanctions that violate the United Nations Charter.
According to Saednews, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has condemned the United States’ latest sanctions against Iran, describing them as a form of economic terrorism and a violation of international law. The ministry said the measures, announced on August 24, 2025, continue what it characterizes as Washington’s hostile policies toward Tehran.
According to the statement, the United States is using the global dominance of the dollar to pressure other countries into following its policies toward Iran. Tehran argues that such measures interfere with the sovereignty and right to self-determination of UN member states and conflict with principles established under the UN Charter.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also cited UN General Assembly resolutions concerning non-intervention, international cooperation, and friendly relations among states. It argued that unilateral sanctions violate these principles by restricting legitimate economic and commercial relations between Iran and other countries.
Iran further linked the new sanctions to the broader conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, claiming that Washington and Israel have pursued aggressive policies under what Tehran considers unfounded justifications. The ministry criticized what it described as the failure of the international community and UN institutions to respond adequately to alleged violations of international law.
The statement characterized the sanctions as an attempt to impose economic hardship on the Iranian population and restrict access to fundamental rights. It therefore described the measures as an international crime and a crime against humanity, arguing that they conflict with international human-rights standards and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
Tehran also referred to the International Court of Justice’s October 3, 2018 order concerning the United States’ obligations regarding the free flow of humanitarian goods and certain essential services to Iran. The ministry argued that continued and expanded sanctions violate the principles established by that ruling.
Iran called on other countries to reject participation in unilateral US sanctions and to avoid recognizing or supporting their consequences. It warned that cooperation with such measures could amount to complicity in violating the sovereign equality of states and interfering with their lawful economic relations.
Concluding its statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the country’s determination to resist what it described as a combined US-Israeli military and economic campaign. It said the Iranian people would rely on their historical, cultural, religious, and national heritage to withstand external pressure and strengthen the country’s resilience and national power.
