SAEDNEWS: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, meeting Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaidi in Baghdad, highlighted the countries’ historic ties and their potential to strengthen bilateral relations and expand their regional role.
According to Saednews, Recalling that approximately three weeks had passed since their previous meeting in Tehran, Ghalibaf expressed his appreciation to the officials and people of Iraq for organizing the funeral ceremony for Iran’s martyred Imam.
“Once again, on behalf of myself, the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Office of the Supreme Leader, I extend my sincere gratitude to the Iraqi authorities and people for holding the funeral ceremony for our martyred Imam,” Ghalibaf said. He particularly praised the participation of more than 10 million people in Iraq despite the intense heat. He also thanked Iraq for its effective preparations for this year’s Arbaeen commemorations.
Emphasizing the deep connections between Iran and Iraq, Ghalibaf said the two neighboring countries share strong geographical, historical, and religious bonds. He added that their position as neighbors has also given them common friends and, in some cases, common adversaries.
Ghalibaf further highlighted the significant potential for cooperation between the two countries, saying that Iran and Iraq have unique opportunities to expand their bilateral relations. He noted that their respective roles in the region, particularly among Islamic and Arab countries, could open the door to unprecedented opportunities for closer cooperation.
