Araghchi: Freed War Captives Preserved Iran’s Pride Throughout Years of Captivity

According to Saednews, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has commemorated the anniversary of the return of the first group of Iranian prisoners of war (POWs), praising their endurance, faith and dignity during years of captivity.

In a message marking August 17, Araghchi said the former POWs had endured not only imprisonment and hardship but had also preserved Iran’s sense of pride through patience and steadfastness.

He described their return as a historic moment that added another chapter to the Iranian nation’s history, saying their years in captivity demonstrated that true freedom is rooted in the human spirit and cannot be defeated by walls or chains.

Araghchi praised the former POWs as living symbols of Iran’s resilience, loyalty, hope and dignity. He said their legacy extends beyond memories of captivity and represents a culture from which future generations can learn and take pride.

He also paid tribute to the martyrs of Iran’s Sacred Defense and honored former POWs, particularly those who later served alongside him at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as their families.

Araghchi concluded his message by praying for the continued health and success of the former POWs, whom he described as valuable national assets and living embodiments of the dignity and pride of Iran.
