Ghareebabadi: Strait of Hormuz Opens and Closes Only by Iran’s Command

According to SaedNews: Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy foreign minister for legal and international affairs, responded to a new claim by the US president concerning the Strait of Hormuz in a post on his personal X account.

Gharibabadi said Trump had claimed that after Iran’s defeat, he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz US territory. He rejected the statement, saying the waterway could not be seized through a tweet, an aircraft carrier, an order or an election speech. He added that Iran was neither afraid of threats nor intimidated by displays of power.

He urged the US to accept what he described as reality, saying it had already suffered heavy strategic defeats. “The Strait of Hormuz has been, is and will remain Iranian,” he said.

Gharibabadi, an aide to Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, further stated that the strait would be closed and reopened only under Iran’s orders. He said Iran would continue imposing a blockade as long as the reality of defeat was not accepted and what he called illusions continued.
