SAEDNEWS: Italy’s Prime Minister on Thursday also rejected NATO Secretary-General’s claims that Rome had allowed the United States to use its military bases in a war against Iran.

Italian Prime Minister reacts to claims that Italy collaborated with Trump: Would the United States have used Italy to launch an attack on Iran?

According to a political report by Saed News Agency, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated on Thursday that Italy did not take part in any military conflict involving Iran and had only permitted logistical and technical activities for the United States.

Meloni added that if Italy had participated in a war against Iran, it would have been difficult to explain the “repeated disappointments of the U.S. President,” referring to recent verbal tensions between her and Donald Trump over various issues in recent days.

The Italian Prime Minister stressed that Italy has “remained committed to its obligations and has only made its bases available to the United States for logistical and technical purposes, not for combat operations.”

She further stated: “When requests went beyond this framework, and as you know has been widely reported, we did not authorize the use of our facilities.”

These remarks come after NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte previously said that around 500 U.S. military flights during the war involving Iran were conducted from bases in Italy.

The Italian Ministry of Defense described those statements as “misleading,” insisting that the country only allowed routine logistical operations.

An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also said that Rutte’s comments indicated Italy was a “co-conspirator” in the U.S. war against Iran.

Earlier, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani told his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi that Italy had never allowed its military bases to be used for combat operations against Iran.

Tajani wrote on X that he had spoken with Araghchi and emphasized that “Italy has never participated in any military action and has never authorized the use of its bases for war operations against Iran,” adding that this position is consistent with “strict adherence to treaties with the United States.”
