Saed News: Trump, in a meeting held on Friday in the Situation Room of the White House, called for stronger guarantees from Iran.
According to SAEDNEWS, informed sources told ABC News that U.S. President Donald Trump has asked Iran, as part of a preliminary agreement aimed at breaking the long-standing deadlock between Tehran and Washington, to provide specific and written nuclear commitments.
According to Fararu, citing ABC News, U.S. officials and a source familiar with the negotiations have claimed that Iranian negotiators had previously given verbal assurances that the Islamic Republic would eventually agree to certain conditions regarding its nuclear program. However, Trump, in a meeting held on Friday in the White House Situation Room, deemed these commitments insufficient and called for stronger guarantees.
Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, on Tuesday during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing outlined part of the Trump administration’s expectations from Iran before any agreement.
Rubio claimed: “They must commit to very specific negotiations regarding highly enriched uranium. They must agree to negotiate strict, long-term limitations or the termination of enrichment activities in their country.”
According to the report, in recent weeks talks between the United States and Iran have focused on reaching a preliminary understanding; an agreement aimed at formally extending the fragile ceasefire between the two countries, gradually reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and setting a timeline for further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear case.
U.S. sources say negotiating teams from both sides reached a draft agreement last week that they believed could gain the approval of both Trump and Iran’s leadership.
Currently, Iran is reviewing the updated version of the agreement, and according to U.S. officials, Iranian negotiators have not yet specified whether Tehran will accept the new terms.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials have emphasized that Trump is cautious at this stage of the negotiations about granting any significant financial concessions to Iran. Rubio claimed that the U.S. government has not proposed lifting sanctions on Iran or releasing its frozen assets as part of the preliminary agreement, stressing that such measures would only be possible after Iran fulfills its commitments to limit its nuclear program.
Trump also said on Monday in a conversation with Jonathan Karl, ABC News senior correspondent in Washington, that he expects Iran to agree to his proposed terms by the end of this week. However, U.S. officials still express doubts about internal divisions within Iran’s power structure and its ability to reach consensus on a deal.
Meanwhile, an Iranian state news agency reported on Tuesday that the latest draft of a possible agreement is still under review in Tehran.
Rubio also claimed that although Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly since being injured in an attack during the early hours of the war, there are now “signs” that he is “increasingly involved at some levels” in the negotiation process.
