Trump on Iran’s Response to U.S. Proposal: “I Prefer Not to Comment”

According to the political desk of Saed News, as reported by IRNA, Donald Trump said today (Saturday) in an exclusive phone interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that he declined to comment on the relocation of U.S. forces from Germany.

In the interview, he confirmed reports about the repositioning of American troops at bases in Italy, stating that the matter is “still under review.”

When asked why he had recently shared an old article by Matteo Salvini, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister, on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump replied: “Because I thought it was appropriate.”

The U.S. president also reposted three reports from the Breitbart website on Truth Social, focusing on his administration’s relations with Europe regarding Iran and NATO.

In one of these articles, quoting Salvini, it was stated that despite some disagreements between Trump and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni over the Pope and NATO, there are deep ties among the political movements supporting them.

A day after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Rome, Trump emphasized regarding Meloni: “Italy wasn’t there when we needed it. I have always stood by Italy, and so has my country.”

Responding to the possibility that Italy might provide mine-clearing support for the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire in Iran, Trump reiterated indifferently: “Italy wasn’t there when we needed it.”

He also declined to comment on Iran’s response letter, which had been expected to be sent the previous night, saying he was not willing to comment at this time.
