White House Update: Iran Naval Blockade Expected to Continue for Months

According to the political desk of Saed News, the British news agency Reuters reported on Saturday that the United States may continue a naval blockade of the Islamic Republic of Iran for several more months.

Citing a White House official, Reuters wrote that U.S. President Donald Trump has, in private meetings, called for the continuation of the naval blockade against Iran for additional months.

According to Fars News Agency, the unnamed source claimed that “[Trump wants] to cripple Iran’s exports in order to force it to sign an agreement to dismantle its nuclear weapons program.”

Meanwhile, European diplomats told Reuters that “the current situation regarding Iran could persist for a long time, and its resolution in the short term appears unlikely.”

Trump’s efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and reach an agreement with Iran—aimed at extricating the United States from the quagmire of conflict and presenting a victorious image to the world—come as he is reportedly concerned about the negative impact of these developments on his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
