SAEDNEWS: A former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps warned that the current situation could escalate into a “global” war, citing the extensive deployment of U.S. military equipment in the region.
According to Saed News’s political desk, Hossein Kananipour, former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and political analyst, discussed the latest regional developments and tensions between Iran and the United States. He stated:
“In recent days, three main scenarios have emerged. One of these scenarios could be considered a newer possibility and involves a ‘limited operation.’ Naturally, if the United States acts within the Persian Gulf, the Islamic Republic will respond heavily within the same area. However, if it dares to target the heart of Iran or key nuclear sites, specifically the Supreme Commander’s leadership, 2,000 missiles will be ready to strike Israel, plunging the entire region into an unintended war.”
He added, according to Fararu:
“But if a full-scale operation occurs—meaning a limited operation fails to force Iran to follow U.S. dictates—we would enter World War III. Russia and China would undoubtedly become involved. Such a war might begin with the Americans, but it certainly won’t end with them. Ultimately, Iran will decide how the conflict concludes.”
The former IRGC commander noted:
“The equipment the Americans have deployed in the region suggests a large-scale operation. In my view, this operation could be equivalent to a world war. When some media refer to it as a ‘limited operation,’ it reflects the understanding that, despite the extensive military presence, a full-scale war is unlikely.”
He explained further:
“When we talk about a limited operation, it’s really about saving face. The U.S. wants to avoid public humiliation if it cannot follow through on the broad threats it has issued.”
Regarding the probability of a wider conflict, the senior foreign policy analyst said:
“If Trump acts according to the theories he usually employs, the chances of war are very high. However, if he approaches the situation with conventional military logic, war should not occur, because a large-scale regional conflict could lead to his political downfall. The United States is already grappling with economic challenges and the aftermath of the Epstein case. Moreover, the Democrats are ready to question his legitimacy over even the smallest misstep. So, if Trump follows his usual approach, the likelihood of war increases. But as I emphasized, such a war would be on the scale of a global conflict.”
