Donald Trump: I Would Have Accepted If the Iranians Had Made These Same Proposals Earlier

According to the political desk of the Saednews website, Asr-e Iran reported:

U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the Muscat negotiations, saying that the United States and Iran had “very good talks” in Oman, and that Iran’s position on reaching a nuclear agreement is now much more favorable than it was when the 12-day war ended last June.

Speaking to reporters, Trump said:
“We had very good talks about Iran. It seems that Iran is very eager to reach an agreement, but we have to see what that agreement looks like.”

He added that Iran must clearly agree to have no nuclear weapons.

Trump also said:
“If Iran had proposed the current plans from the beginning, they would have been accepted immediately.”

In response to a reporter who asked, “Would an agreement that only covers the nuclear issue be acceptable to you?” Trump replied:
“Yes, it would be acceptable. But there is one thing that must be clear from the start: there must be no nuclear weapons. If we could have reached such an agreement two years ago, we would have done so, but they were not willing at the time. Now they are willing. They are even willing to do much more than they were prepared to do a year and a half ago.”

Referring to U.S. military forces, Trump said that the United States is in no rush to take military action against Iran and, for that reason, has not yet placed all its military forces “in position.” He added that he prefers a diplomatic solution. However, he warned that if no agreement is reached, the consequences would be very severe.

The U.S. president emphasized:
“We have plenty of time. If you remember Venezuela, we waited for some time, and we’re not in a hurry.”

Regarding the continuation of the talks, Trump said that the American side intends to meet again with the Iranian side early next week to continue the negotiations.

The talks in Muscat, Oman, were held between Abbas Araghchi (Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs), Steve Witkoff (Trump’s special envoy), and Jared Kushner (Trump’s advisor and son-in-law), with the Omani foreign minister acting as mediator. The negotiations lasted nearly eight hours. Initially, each side held separate discussions with the Omani foreign minister, but later, direct talks also took place between the American and Iranian teams.
