SAEDNEWS: The news of Ali Shamkhani’s appointment as Secretary of the Defense Council surfaced in the media even though the decision actually dates back to an earlier period.
According to the political desk of the Saed News website, Noor News, a media outlet close to Ali Shamkhani, announced on Monday evening that he has been appointed as Secretary of the Defense Council by a decree from the President.
The Defense Council is a body that was formed after the 12-day war in response to new threats. Its purpose is to enhance coordination, cohesion, and efficiency in defense decision-making and to strengthen deterrence at the highest levels.
Following the publication of this news, Seyed Mohammad-Mehdi Tabatabaei, Deputy for Communications and Information at the Office of the President, stated that “the Defense Council was established during the 12-day war as a council operating under the Supreme National Security Council. The presidential decree appointing the secretary of this council is not new, and there was no necessity to publicize it.”
The mission of the Secretary of the Defense Council includes establishing and managing the council’s secretariat and overseeing its specialized programs. These responsibilities encompass the comprehensive design and strengthening of defense preparedness, developing mechanisms to confront emerging threats, creating synergy among other pillars of power of the Islamic Republic in the defense sphere, formulating frameworks for defense diplomacy, and organizing activities related to strategic communications and cognitive warfare within the defense strategy domain.
Since the formation of the council, Shamkhani has been serving as the Supreme Leader’s representative within it.
