International Condemnation: IAEA Board of Governors Issues Red Card to Netanyahu Over Aggression Against Iran

According to SAEDNEWS, the following statement was read during the extraordinary session of the IAEA Board of Governors:

“We condemn the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression against Iran, including military attacks on nuclear facilities under the safeguards of the International Atomic Energy Agency, as a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the Statute of the IAEA.”

The statement further declares:

“We strongly believe that these military attacks not only threaten international peace and security, but also undermine confidence in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), demonstrate blatant disregard for the IAEA safeguards system, and jeopardize the further development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.”

Citing resolutions of the IAEA General Conference, the signatories stated:

“Any armed attack or threat against nuclear facilities designated for peaceful purposes constitutes a violation of the principles of the UN Charter, international law, and the Statute of the IAEA.”

The countries reminded the audience that Iran is a non-nuclear-weapon state party to the NPT and that the targeted facilities are covered by the IAEA's comprehensive safeguards agreement. The statement also noted:

“We recall Iran’s long-standing and firm commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and express our deep concern about the far-reaching consequences of such military attacks on safeguarded nuclear facilities.”

The signatories called on the Israeli regime to immediately cease its military aggression against Iran and urged the Board of Governors, the IAEA Secretariat, and the Director General to take necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such attacks.

The statement concluded:

“We urge the Director General to promptly report to the Board of Governors on all consequences of Israel’s attacks on IAEA-safeguarded sites and facilities in Iran, and to report any further acts or threats of aggression to the United Nations Security Council.”

The statement was issued jointly by the Russian Federation, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Indonesia, Nicaragua, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and Iran.
