Saed News: Google is facing a legal complaint from an artificial intelligence engineer who claims he was unfairly dismissed after protesting the company’s cooperation with the Israeli regime.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing The Guardian, this is the latest sign of growing concerns over the ethical and social impacts of artificial intelligence.
The engineer published letters at Google DeepMind offices in London stating: “Google is providing military AI to forces that are committing genocide,” and asked colleagues: “Is your salary worth it?”
He also sent emails to colleagues regarding Google’s 2025 decision not to uphold its pledge to avoid building weapons that could harm humans and surveillance tools that violate international norms, urging them to form a union.
According to the complaint, the employee alleges that Google discriminated against him for his belief that no one should be complicit in war crimes, and that he acted as a whistleblower by sending notices to colleagues. He claims he was dismissed in September after meetings with a manager. Google later concluded that he had resigned, which he denies.
Google DeepMind rejected his account, with a spokesperson stating that these claims do not accurately reflect the facts.
The employee, who is of Palestinian origin and requested anonymity, told The Guardian that working in a leading AI research lab had been his childhood dream, but his feelings changed after working under these conditions at Google. He said he feels devastated, as every day he wakes up feeling he has betrayed humanity and his own people.
