Joseph Aoun: Israel’s Withdrawal from Lebanon Is a Non-Negotiable Demand

According to SAEDNEWS, citing Al-Nashra, Lebanese President General Joseph Aoun stated in remarks on the anniversary of the liberation of southern Lebanon that on this day in 2000, southern Lebanon created an unprecedented epic, when Israeli occupiers withdrew as a result of the resistance and sacrifices of the people of this land.

Without naming Hezbollah as the heroes of the liberation of southern Lebanon, he described May 25 as a day of comprehensive national dignity in Lebanon, adding that this year’s anniversary comes while Lebanon is under the pressure of a painful reality. Israeli attacks have not stopped, and southern villages remain under pressure from a renewed occupation that constitutes a clear violation of all international resolutions, especially Resolution 1701.

Aoun stressed that Lebanon will not accept or come to terms with this reality, and that the path toward the full withdrawal of the Israeli regime remains a fixed and non-negotiable national demand, which the Lebanese government is pursuing through negotiation.

He claimed that direct negotiation with the Israeli regime does not mean surrender or compromise, but rather affirms Lebanon’s exclusive right to protect its land and sovereignty and to extend authority through its legitimate army and security forces.

Joseph Aoun described the army as the sole guarantor of national security and territorial integrity, stating that those who liberated the south with their blood—whether soldiers, resistance fighters, or all Lebanese—deserve a strong and cohesive state with legitimate civil and military institutions, a just state without discrimination, and a united state with the will and solidarity of its people.

He stressed that the greatest loyalty to the anniversary of liberation is to build a state that serves as a refuge for all Lebanese. Lebanon belongs to all its people, and the liberation of the south is a duty and an irreplaceable option that the state undertakes with the support of its citizens.
