Asthma In Children Worsened By Eating These Foods

According to SAEDNEWS, the study published in a specialized allergy journal found that children who obtain more than 30 percent of their daily calories from ultra-processed foods are up to four times more likely to develop asthma.

In this study, nearly 700 children in Spain were followed for about 3.4 years. Parents of participants provided detailed information about their children’s diet, and researchers analyzed the consumption of ultra-processed foods such as sugary cereals, soft drinks, packaged snacks, fast food, and other industrial products.

The findings showed a significant association between high consumption of these foods and an increased likelihood of developing asthma in childhood, meaning that the higher the share of these foods in the diet, the greater the risk. However, no link was found between this type of diet and other respiratory allergies.

Researchers suggest that ultra-processed foods may affect the respiratory system and lung function by causing inflammation in the body. Accordingly, reducing the consumption of these foods in children’s diets may be considered a preventive strategy.
