Saed News: A family that had been criticized by users after publishing a photo with their mother’s coffin has released an explanation.
According to SAEDNEWS, quoting the Young Journalists Club, a family in India faced severe criticism on social media after a photo of them smiling next to the coffin of their elderly mother went viral. In the shared selfie, all members of the family were seen smiling beside their mother’s coffin.
According to NDTV, in this incident that took place in the state of Kerala, India, at least 40 members of the family gathered around the coffin of their 95-year-old mother, “Maryamma,” and took a smiling group selfie.
However, the publication of this photo on social media led to heavy backlash from users, who questioned and strongly criticized the smiling expressions of the family members next to the coffin.
Nevertheless, the family rejected online concerns and stated that they used the final day with their mother to remember the happy memories she left behind. In a statement, they wrote: “The smiles were intentional, and we confirm that we do not regret this photo.”
The family also said they understand the feelings of those who criticized them online, adding that people are used to sad images of funerals.
The statement added: “Our mother lived happily for nearly 95 years, and we all know how much we loved and cared for her. It was our collective decision to take a final photo with her in a happy mood to ensure a memorable farewell.”
