The Strange Life Of An Omani Woman Living With 500 Cats And Dogs At Home

According to SAEDNEWS, citing the Nashan news outlet, a woman in Muscat, the capital of Oman, despite complaints from neighbors and high costs, owns 480 cats and 12 dogs. Maryam Al-Balushi considers pets better companions than humans and says that cats and dogs are more loyal than people. This Omani woman has turned to raising pets over the past decade. She spends about 7,800 dollars per month on the care of her cats and dogs. Out of the total 490 cats and dogs that Maryam Al-Balushi keeps, 17 animals are blind. Her house is full of cages. Al-Balushi, who is 51 years old and a retired employee, says it all started in 2008 when her son bought a small Persian cat.

At first, I refused to take care of this cat because I did not like animals, and my son did not pay much attention to it either. But two years later everything changed. I suddenly found myself completely immersed and started taking care of this cat. I fed it, bathed it, and spent a lot of time with the animal.

This woman says that these animals have helped her overcome depression and have also made her gain a large following on social media.
