According to SAEDNEWS, citing the Young Journalists Club, watermelon is one of the most popular fruits in warm weather. This fruit is rich in lycopene and, due to its high water content and low calories, is recommended for people who are trying to lose weight.

Experts emphasize the importance of adequate water intake during summer. Fortunately, watermelon, due to its high water content, can help prevent dehydration during hot summer days. It is also a good snack option because of its micronutrient content.

In fact, 94% of watermelon is water, and it is rich in lycopene, potassium, and other nutrients. It also contains a reasonable amount of fiber, which helps improve digestive health. Some people eat a light dinner such as bread, watermelon, and cheese. Although watermelon is nutritious and tasty, it is recommended not to consume it at night or before going to bed.

An Indian specialist says: “I do not recommend eating watermelon after 7 PM at all. Watermelon is somewhat acidic, and eating it at night may disturb the digestive system and slow down digestion when the body is less active. The best time to eat watermelon is between 12 and 1 PM, when digestion is most active.”

The main reasons given by Indian scientists for avoiding watermelon at night include:

1- Eating watermelon at night can cause digestive problems, especially irritable bowel syndrome, which may lead to stomach discomfort the next day. Since digestion slows down at night, experts generally advise avoiding sweet and acidic foods at night.

2- Because watermelon contains a significant amount of natural sugar, eating it at night may cause weight gain in some people.

3- Watermelon has a high water content. This means eating it before sleep may cause frequent nighttime urination, reducing sleep quality and causing fatigue the next day. In children, it may even lead to bedwetting.

4- Eating watermelon at night may cause digestive issues such as diarrhea or constipation.

In conclusion, watermelon has many health benefits and should not be avoided entirely. It is better to consume it in moderation during the daytime, preferably before 7 PM.
