Saed News: Scientists have reached a consensus on the existence of a continent called Zealandia—a landmass that, for unknown reasons still being studied, separated from Gondwana.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing Hamshahri Online, the continent of Zealandia was part of a supercontinent called Gondwana, which about 500 million years ago included much of West Antarctica and eastern Australia.
Over the years, there were many historical speculations about the existence of Zealandia, or “Te Riu-a-Māui” in the Māori language. It is said that the continent was first discovered in 1642 by Abel Tasman, an Indian trader and sailor who was disappointed in his search for a large southern continent.
In 2017, geologists finally identified this long-hidden continent. Today, most of Zealandia lies underwater, and researchers at the Zealand Crown Institute describe it as an example of how something so significant could remain hidden for so long before being discovered.
