Saed News: Keisuke Aiso created the “Momo” statue inspired by one of Japanese folklore legends.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing Khabar Online, in Japanese folklore there are imaginary creatures called “Yokai,” each with its own story to tell. These stories sometimes become the source of artistic works, and the terrifying “Momo” statue is one of them.
Keisuke Aiso has created many works inspired by these legends, and “Momo” is one of them. It is based on a local story about the spirit of a pregnant woman who died while giving birth. Inspired by such stories, he created a statue with bird-like legs and a human head.
At first, the statue did not attract much attention during exhibitions, and outside Aiso’s workshop it sometimes frightened neighbors. However, later it became a global phenomenon—bringing fame to Aiso and turning the statue’s image into a globally recognized face.
