According to SAEDNEWS, citing Bartarinha, Marisa Fotieo, a passenger traveling from Chicago to Iceland, felt throat pain and itching during the flight and took a test, which showed she was infected with COVID-19.

The American teacher decided to isolate herself in the airplane bathroom to protect other passengers and stayed there for about four hours until the end of the flight.

After she posted a video of her self-imposed quarantine in the airplane toilet, she became widely known on social media.

In the video, she even thanked the “in-flight accommodation service” of the airplane lavatory.

The video has been viewed more than 4.3 million times since Thursday.

Marisa Fotieo told NBC that it took her only two seconds to realize she had COVID-19, and her biggest fear was infecting at least 150 passengers on board.

However, she also faced criticism. Some users questioned how a person with COVID symptoms could board an international flight. In response, she said she had taken two COVID tests before the flight, both of which were negative, and that she was also vaccinated.

It is still unclear whether any other passengers on the flight were infected. The United States was dealing with the Omicron wave, which had caused thousands of flight cancellations.
