SaedNews: The circulation of images of Emine, the wife of Erdoğan, preparing “Ashura soup” on social media has sparked mixed reactions from users.
According to SAEDNEWS, citing ISNA, since in Turkey it is customary on the day of Ashura or the 10th of Muharram to prepare a charity dish called “Ashure” and distribute it among neighbors, the wife of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the current President of Turkey, followed this tradition and prepared the dish, sharing an image of it. However, instead of the charity itself, attention was mostly drawn to her kitchen, with users criticizing its luxury and expensive appliances, even commenting on the kitchen faucet.
Users claimed the price of the kitchen faucet is around 10,000 lira, equivalent to 30 million tomans, and argued that someone living in such a house is detached from the suffering and concerns of ordinary people. Many also stated that a politician cannot and should not live like ordinary people, and that those who enter politics do so for wealth and power rather than improving society.
Some users, however, expressed satisfaction with Erdoğan and his family’s lifestyle, noting that they annually take part in preparing Ashure as a charitable tradition.
