Strong Tea Is One of the Major Factors in Kidney Stone Formation

According to SAEDNEWS, quoting Rokna, Dr. Mianehsaz, a specialist at Kashan University of Medical Sciences, said: Continuous consumption of strong tea as a substitute for water is one of the serious health concerns in the region. Many citizens believe that because tea is a beverage, it can meet the body’s fluid needs; however, chronic low water intake and replacing it with strong tea thickens urine and, in susceptible individuals, significantly increases the risk of calcium oxalate stone formation.

Strong tea contains oxalate, and when a person is dehydrated, this oxalate has more opportunity to precipitate in the kidneys. Therefore, the main cause of kidney stone formation is not calcium tablets, but low water intake and concentrated urine.

Many patients mistakenly believe that by eliminating calcium from their diet, they can improve kidney health; however, the scientific reality is quite different. Adequate calcium intake (especially dietary calcium or supplements prescribed by a doctor) can bind to oxalate in the digestive system and prevent its absorption into the blood. Therefore, removing calcium in some individuals may even increase the risk of stone formation.

The scientific solution for preventing kidney stones is to replace tea with plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet. Citizens should consult a medical specialist instead of self-medicating when it comes to calcium supplements and bone health evaluation.
