SAEDNEWS: An Unseen Photo from the Wedding Ceremony of Muzaffar al-Din Shah’s Daughter
According to the history service of Saed News, Ashraf al-Molouk Fakhr-od-Dowleh was born in the autumn of 1883 (1262 SH). A Qajar princess and one of the daughters of Mozaffar ad-Din Shah Qajar, she was born in Tabriz. She received her early education in the Dar al-Saltaneh school of Tabriz, where she learned Quranic القراءه, grammar (sarf and nahv), arithmetic, and accounting systems (siyāq). After her father’s ascension to the throne, she moved with him to Tehran in June 1896 (1275 SH).
At the age of 14, Ashraf al-Molouk Fakhr-od-Dowleh married Mohsen Khan Amin al-Dowleh, the son of the then Prime Minister of Iran. Although their marriage was accompanied by many difficulties, controversies, and family tensions, it lasted until the end of their lives.
Before her marriage to Mohsen Amin al-Dowleh, it was planned that Fakhr-od-Dowleh would marry her well-known cousin, Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh. However, this plan did not materialize after the intervention of Ali Khan Amin al-Dowleh, the influential prime minister favored by Mozaffar ad-Din Shah, who sought to strengthen his family’s political standing through this royal connection. As a result, the shah’s daughter was married to his son instead.
This situation caused lasting resentment between Najm al-Saltaneh, Mossadegh’s mother and Fakhr-od-Dowleh’s aunt, and Sarvar al-Saltaneh. After her marriage, Ashraf al-Molouk Fakhr-od-Dowleh, under the supervision of her influential father-in-law—one of the most powerful politicians of the time—developed into a capable, organized, and politically aware woman.
In the years following the marriage, her husband Mohsen Amin al-Dowleh’s political mistakes led to many family responsibilities being transferred to her. Her seriousness, wisdom, and competence during the Constitutional Revolution and the years that followed earned her great respect among influential politicians and experienced statesmen of the era, including Reza Khan Sardar Sepah.
