According to SAEDNEWS, During a general audience attended by thousands of pilgrims and tourists, Pope Francis expressed his deep sadness over the recent violence in Lebanon. He noted, "I am saddened by the news from Lebanon, where intense bombings have led to many casualties and widespread destruction."
The Pope called on the international community to take decisive action to halt the escalation of violence, stating, "It is unacceptable." He extended his thoughts to the people of Lebanon, who he said have suffered enough in recent times.
In his address, he urged everyone to pray for those affected by war around the world, mentioning countries like Ukraine, Myanmar, Palestine, Israel, and Sudan, whose people are also enduring hardships.
The Pope’s remarks came during his 500th general audience, where he spoke about the spiritual battle against evil. He emphasized that while the presence of evil is real, it manifests in various forms that can be difficult to fully understand. He noted, "The strongest proof of the existence of Satan is found not in sinners or the possessed, but in the saints."
Continuing his series of teachings on "The Spirit and the Bride," Pope Francis focused on the importance of the Holy Spirit as a guide and ally in resisting evil. He cautioned against trying to identify the devil in personal actions, explaining how complicated the interplay between evil and human actions can be. "This is why the Church is careful and serious about performing exorcisms, unlike what is often depicted in movies," he said.
The Pope concluded by calling for prayers for peace, urging everyone to remember the suffering around the globe.
