According to SAEDNEWS, A baby registry set up in honor of Madeline and Matthew lists a due date of December 31, 2024. A recent group photo taken during Katie Gaudreau's bachelorette weekend on August 4 shows Madeline cradling what appears to be a baby bump.

Matthew and Johnny were both professional hockey players for the Columbus Blue Jackets and were killed around 8 p.m. when a driver, identified as Sean M. Higgins, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, struck them. Higgins has since been arrested and charged with two counts of death by auto, according to New Jersey State Police.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Meredith, and their two young children, daughter Noa, who is turning 2 in October, and son Johnny, who is just 7 months old.

In a heartfelt statement provided to WBZ-TV reporter Dan Roche, the brothers' uncle, Jim Gaudreau, expressed the family's sorrow over the loss: “Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two sons and brothers-in-law, two nephews, two cousins, two family members, two teammates, two friends but truly two amazing humans. We want to let everyone know we are receiving your messages of love and support, and we appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers. We ask for your continued respect and privacy during this very difficult period of grief.”

Both brothers were in New Jersey for their sister's wedding, scheduled for August 30, and were set to serve as groomsmen. However, the venue has confirmed that the wedding has been canceled in light of this tragedy.

The Columbus Blue Jackets released a statement expressing their shock and sadness: “We are shocked and devastated by this tragic news. We will miss him terribly and do everything that we can to support his family and each other through this tragedy. At this time, we ask for prayers for the Gaudreau family and that their privacy be respected as they grieve.”
