SAEDNEWS: An Azeri political commentator has told Mehr that the good relations between Tehran and Baku will ensure regional stability, adding that membership in BRICS can lay ground for more promising prospects for both nations.
According to SAEDNEWS, An Azeri political commentator shared insights with Mehr news agency, emphasizing that the positive relationship between Iran and Azerbaijan is key to ensuring stability in the region. She highlighted that joining BRICS could create even better opportunities for both nations.
Recently, following a visit from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Baku, Azerbaijan expressed interest in becoming a member of BRICS, a group that stands for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. This organization was formed in 2006 and aims to challenge the dominance of wealthier countries in North America and Western Europe. Experts believe Azerbaijan's desire to join BRICS is part of its strategy to strengthen ties with eastern countries like China and Russia.
In an interview with Yegane Hacıyeva, an Azerbaijani political analyst, Mehr news agency asked about the significance of BRICS in today's global landscape and Azerbaijan’s application for membership. Hacıyeva stated, "BRICS is turning to a political union that brings together countries that do not accept the world order controlled by the Western powers, led by the United States."
She also noted, "We are leaving behind a unipolar system and a multipolar world is emerging, and the future structures of BRICS will actually be determined by such a factor." Hacıyeva stressed that the strong ties between Tehran and Baku are vital for regional stability, saying, "Good relations between the two countries have laid the ground for peace and stability in the region."
She added that BRICS membership could lead to promising prospects for both Azerbaijan and Iran. "BRICS membership can create more beneficial and promising prospects for Azerbaijan and Iran, two countries that are friends and care about peace and stability in the region," she pointed out.
Azerbaijan has consistently viewed Iran as a friendly nation and expects the same in return, according to Hacıyeva. She explained that BRICS provides opportunities for economic cooperation without imposing political conditions, which could aid in the region's economic development.
From the perspective of BRICS, she believes Azerbaijan could play a valuable role due to its strategic location that connects the Eurasian region, the South Caucasus, and the Middle East. "This cooperation is based on the principle of 'mutual benefit,'" she added.
Hacıyeva concluded by stating that Azerbaijan is keen on expanding its global influence, going beyond its existing relationships with Western nations. "Holding on to the policy of balance, the Republic of Azerbaijan is willing to cooperate with various international blocs," she emphasized.
