SAEDNEWS: Demonstrators took to the streets in the southern suburbs of Beirut, chanting slogans in support of Hezbollah.
A group of Lebanese citizens gathered Monday night in the southern suburbs of the capital, Beirut, to voice support for Hezbollah, as controversy looms over attempts to disarm the resistance movement.
According to Al Arabiya, demonstrators took to the streets in the areas of Mashrafieh and Kafaat, chanting slogans in favor of Hezbollah.
They also shouted “Labbaik Ya Nasrallah,” expressing allegiance to the late Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah who was assassinated by the Israeli regime last year, and rejecting US interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
The protest came ahead of a cabinet session on Tuesday, which is expected to deliberate on a controversial initiative to disarm Hezbollah, under heavy foreign pressure.
Participants in the rally said any decision to target the resistance’s weapons would amount to yielding to American demands and ignoring the ongoing threat posed by Israel.
Meanwhile, Ali Fayyad, a member of the Hezbollah-affiliated Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc in the Lebanese parliament, has dismissed calls for unilateral Lebanese measures under a ceasefire agreement with Israel, arguing that “the other side behaves as if it disregards the agreement.”
Fayyad said on Monday that Israel must first commit to withdrawing from Lebanese territory, halt its aggression, and release Lebanese prisoners, as agreed upon in the ceasefire, before engaging in discussions on any other topics, including the issue of Hezbollah laying down its weapons.
