Tehran Emphasizes Peace and Development in Caucasus, Urges Vigilance on U.S. Role

SAEDNEWS: Iranian President highlights the importance of Armenia's sovereignty in the U.S.-involved Caucasus transit project and warns against any foreign military presence disguised as peace and development efforts in the region.

According to Saed News citing ISNA, The President of Iran referred to the agreement on the implementation of the transit corridor project in the Caucasus region with U.S. participation, stressing the preservation of Armenia’s sovereignty in this regard and the exclusion of any military or security forces under the guise of executing this project. He warned of the need for heightened vigilance regarding potential actions by the American side, which might pursue hegemonic objectives in the Caucasus region under the cover of economic investment and claims of peacekeeping, stating: "It must be ensured that this route truly leads to peace and development, not a tool to realize foreign domination ambitions."

Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, in a telephone conversation with the Iranian President on Monday, 20 Mordad, provided a detailed report on the recent peace memorandum of understanding signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, explaining various aspects of the Caucasus transit corridor project. He expressed gratitude for the principled stance of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in maintaining regional cohesion.

Pashinyan added that Iran’s emphasis on preserving Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is highly valued and important to Armenia, and that Armenia will not sign any agreement without full assurance that Iran’s interests, considerations, and sensitivities as a friendly neighboring country are respected.

The Armenian Prime Minister stressed that Armenia regards its relations and cooperation with Iran as strategic, and all important decisions and actions will be taken in mutual consultation and coordination. Transparency and honesty have been established as fundamental principles in this relationship and will remain so.

Masoud Pezeshkian described the relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Armenia as strategic, noting that the interaction process between the two countries has always been constructive, based on good neighborliness and mutual respect for each other's territorial integrity. He said: "Adopting principled and logical approaches has always been the firm foundation for strengthening friendly and strategic ties between Tehran and Yerevan, and any effort or action aimed at undermining these historic and deep relations will be firmly rejected and deemed unacceptable by both countries."

The President further stated that Iran, as an anchor of peace, stability, and security in the region, welcomes any agreement that strengthens peace, especially among regional countries.

Pezeshkian also pointed to the agreement to implement the transit corridor project in the Caucasus involving the United States and emphasized preserving Armenia’s sovereignty and the absence of any military or security interference within the framework of the project’s execution. He warned of the need for special vigilance regarding possible American actions that might pursue hegemonic goals in the region under the pretext of economic investment and peace provision. He added: "It must be ensured that this path is truly one of peace and development, not a tool for achieving foreign hegemonic ambitions."

The President emphasized the value and importance of neighborhood relations, especially among Iran, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, stating that the continuation and strengthening of these ties depend on care, coordination, empathy, and avoiding any foreign interventions. He declared: "The Islamic Republic of Iran has always prioritized common interests in regional relations, especially with neighbors, and is confident that this approach will be considered a fundamental priority among neighboring countries as well."
