SAEDNEWS: Prosecutor: Three Achaemenid Coins Found in Armed Clash in Barkhar County
According to Saed News’ Social Affairs service, citing Hamshahri, Mohammad Meydanchi, in a complex intelligence operation in Barghvar County, recovered three valuable Achaemenid-era rhytons following an armed confrontation with antiquities traffickers.
The Barghvar County prosecutor added that no injuries occurred during the clash, and all traffickers were apprehended.
He explained that the three precious rhytons—two made of gold—are, according to experts, from the Achaemenid period. They are considered priceless and have been handed over to the Cultural Heritage Organization, while the traffickers were transferred to prison.
According to Tasnim News Agency, one of the most iconic symbols of power in ancient Iran is the tekook (or rhyton), a type of golden cup often shaped like various animals. Each animal symbolized a distinct concept, and it was believed that drinking from these rhytons would imbue the person with the strength and dominance of the depicted animal.
