SAEDNEWS: AI-Powered Humanoid Robot Leads Classroom and Student Debate Sessions in Germany for the First Time in Europe

Europe’s First Iron Teacher: Robot Debuts in Classroom in Place of a Human Instructor

According to the Saed News university service, this event is considered the first real experience in Europe where a humanoid robot took full responsibility for conducting a classroom and managing students’ discussions for an entire day. The distinguishing features of this robot compared to earlier models are as follows:

Dynamic Artificial Intelligence (LLM)

Unlike older educational robots that simply read pre-recorded lectures, “Captcha” is connected to large language models (LLMs). This allows it to dynamically adjust its speech in real time based on classroom conditions and students’ questions.

Environmental Interaction

The robot uses its sensors and cameras to perceive its surroundings and respond to students’ comments and questions.

Event and Robot Details

  • Robot name: Captcha

  • Manufacturer: Heduba Research, a startup company based in Hong Kong (founded in 2020)

  • Location: Wilhelm Gymnasium High School, Delmenhorst, northern Germany

  • Date: December 17, 2024 (27 Azar 1403)

Activities Conducted by the Robot Teacher

Interactive Teaching

Captcha delivered an engaging lecture on the topic: “The difference between how artificial intelligence thinks and how humans think.”
To ensure understanding, the robot repeatedly asked students questions during the lesson.

Debate Management

Captcha also acted as a neutral judge and moderator in a student debate covering five challenging topics, including:

  • Legalization of human–AI relationships

  • The role of AI in fake news

  • The possibility of AI causing the end of the world

It evaluated groups based on logic and argument structure and assigned scores accordingly.

The Robot’s View on Replacing Teachers (From the Video)

At the end of the video, when asked whether AI could fully replace teachers, the robot responded:

“Teaching is an art, and I cannot express the human touch and emotion that a teacher brings. Moreover, I do not have a classroom management system to control you little monsters!”

This response suggests that even the developers of this technology see such robots as assistants and supplements to teachers, not replacements for human emotion and classroom management.
