SAEDNEWS: After the early death of Sultan Mahmud Mirza, the first crown prince of Naser al-Din Shah, Muin al-Din Mirza was chosen as the next heir to the throne. Discover the story and fate of Naser al-Din Shah’s second crown prince.
According to Saed News Society Desk, The second crown prince of Naser al-Din Shah was Prince Mo'in al-Din Mirza, who was born in Tehran on Sunday, 17 Rabi' al-Thani 1269 AH. His mother was Taj al-Dowleh, the second officially wedded wife of Naser al-Din Shah. She had two children with the Shah: Mo'in al-Din Mirza and Esmat al-Dowleh.
When Mo'in al-Din Mirza was only five months old, Naser al-Din Shah issued a decree on 21 Rabi' al-Awwal 1269 AH appointing the infant prince as Crown Prince and placing him in line for succession.
However, like his brother Mahmud Mirza, Mo'in al-Din Mirza's tenure as Crown Prince was very brief. He lived for only six years and passed away on 12 Rabi' al-Awwal 1273 AH, coinciding with the news of the conquest of Herat. Thus, the young Crown Prince of Iran died at an early age.
The news of Mo'in al-Din Mirza's death deeply saddened Naser al-Din Shah. Despite his great enthusiasm over the capture of Herat, he refrained from organizing celebrations and official ceremonies because of the loss of his son. From that date until 14 Rabi' al-Awwal 1274 AH, the Iranian throne remained without a designated heir. Eventually, the Shah appointed another of his sons, Mohammad Qasem Khan Amir Nezam, as Crown Prince.
