SAEDNEWS: During the Qajar era, musicians and dancers were referred to as Amaleh-ye Tarab (entertainment performers). They took part in cooks’ ceremonies, private gatherings, and wedding celebrations.
According to a report cited by the news website Saed News and quoted from Econa Press, another group of performers were known as “motrebs” — traditional entertainers and musicians. One of the most famous groups during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar was the ensemble led by “Momen-e Kur.” He and his wife played the tombak and daf, while their two daughters performed as well: one played a hand-operated organ, and the other was skilled in dancing.
Another notable performer was “Soltan Khanom,” a dancer associated with Jahan Khanom, the mother of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar.
