SAEDNEWS: Russia Defends Iran’s Right to Pursue Nuclear Program
According to Saednews, Russian diplomat Mikhail Ulyanov said on Friday that Iran is not legally required to abandon its nuclear programme, describing the country’s right to pursue nuclear activities as “inalienable.”
“Apparently, the US Ambassador doesn’t know that Iran is not obliged to abandon its nuclear programme. It is Iran’s inalienable right,” Ulyanov wrote on X. He added that, in his view, the position of the Republican administration is based on what he described as “wrong assumptions” about nuclear non-proliferation norms and the activities of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Ulyanov made the remarks in response to comments by US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz, who had accused Iran of violating its nuclear obligations and refusing to abandon its nuclear programme.
The exchange highlights the continuing disagreement between Washington and Moscow over how Iran’s nuclear commitments and the role of the IAEA should be interpreted.
