SAEDNEWS: Shina Ansari, head of Iran’s Department of Environment, and Muhammad Jumhur Hidayat, Indonesia’s Minister of Environment, reviewed the progress of environmental cooperation between the two countries.
According to Saednews, Iran and Indonesia have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation on environmental issues during a meeting held on the sidelines of the BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi.
Ansari highlighted the environmental capacities shared by the two countries and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation, exchanging expertise and technical knowledge, and strengthening collaboration among environmental specialists.
She emphasized the need to protect biodiversity, natural habitats, forests, water resources, and marine ecosystems, while also addressing climate change and improving waste management.
Meanwhile, Hidayat called for broader specialized and technical cooperation between Iran and Indonesia in the environmental sector.
He pointed to Indonesia’s efforts to combat plastic pollution and stressed the importance of international cooperation and consensus on practical waste-management mechanisms, particularly in coastal areas.
Both sides also emphasized the need to continue consultations and make greater use of multilateral frameworks, especially BRICS, to promote environmental cooperation.
The 12th BRICS Environment Ministers’ Meeting was held in New Delhi on Tuesday, August 18. The event took place under India’s 2026 BRICS chairmanship and focused on the theme: “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainability.”
