Saed News: US Navy plans to double nuclear submarine production
According to SAEDNEWS, citing Tasnim, the US Navy has set a target in its new shipbuilding plan for 2027–2031 to deliver at least three nuclear-powered submarines per year, nearly doubling its current production rate.
Under this plan, the United States intends to build one Columbia-class submarine and two Virginia-class submarines annually, significantly increasing its undersea capabilities.
According to published details, a total of $124.9 billion has been allocated for the construction of nuclear submarines, while an additional $6.2 billion is dedicated to expanding industrial capacity, workforce training, and strengthening the supply chain.
US officials say the main goal of this plan is to maintain Washington’s naval superiority in strategic competition with China. The program is also seen as part of the AUKUS security agreement and an effort to strengthen military cooperation between the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
