SAEDNEWS: President: Iran’s Red Line Is National Interests; Agreement Within Reach If U.S. Respects International Law
According to a report by Saed News Agency’s political service, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation in which they exchanged views on recent regional developments following what they described as U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran, the announcement of a current ceasefire, and the Iran–U.S. negotiations being held in Islamabad, Pakistan.
During the call, the Iranian president extended Easter greetings to his Russian counterpart and expressed appreciation for the messages of sympathy and solidarity from the Russian president, government, and people during the military aggression by the United States and the Israeli regime against Iran. He also described Russia’s principled positions in support of Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity—particularly its responsible decision to oppose an anti-Iran resolution at the United Nations Security Council—as valuable in preventing further escalation of tensions in the region.
Pezeshkian also briefed Putin on the Iran–U.S. negotiations mediated by Pakistan’s government, stating that the greatest obstacle to reaching a fair agreement is the existence of double standards and unilateralism on the American side.
He emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to reach a balanced and equitable agreement that would ensure lasting peace and security in the region. He added that Iran’s “red lines” are its national interests and the rights of its people, stressing that if the United States adheres to international legal frameworks, reaching an agreement would not be out of reach.
The president also referred to the Gulf states as Iran’s brothers and expressed regret over the use of U.S. military bases located in those countries for attacks against Iran. He reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to cooperate with its neighbors to achieve indigenous regional peace and security without the involvement of extra-regional powers.
For his part, President Vladimir Putin thanked President Pezeshkian and conveyed Russia’s message of solidarity and support for Iran’s Supreme Leader, government, and people. He emphasized Russia’s backing for diplomatic processes aimed at resolving the current crisis politically and expressed Moscow’s readiness to utilize its capacities and continue assisting efforts to find a diplomatic solution, while maintaining active contacts and consultations.
Putin also strongly criticized Western double standards and stressed the need to respect Iran’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. He underscored Iran’s legitimate positions, including calls for compensation for damages resulting from military aggression and the need for long-term security guarantees to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
Highlighting the friendly and brotherly relations between Iran and Russia, the Russian president reiterated the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation within the framework of a comprehensive strategic treaty, as well as continuing close coordination in international forums.
The two sides concluded the conversation by reaffirming their mutual determination to strengthen comprehensive cooperation based on good neighborly relations between Russia and Iran.
