SAEDNEWS: After a severe winter storm in March 2017, photographer John Coco captured a house in Webster, New York, completely covered in ice. Located just 6 meters from Lake Ontario’s shore, it was transformed by freezing winds and crashing waves into a striking frozen scene.
According to Saed News, Coco received a message on Facebook about a strange, ice-covered house located near a lake. Intrigued, she decided to find the location. However, the sender did not provide any precise details about where the house was. As a result, she searched roughly 64 kilometers of Lake Ontario’s shoreline using Google Earth until she finally discovered the unusual house.
When Coco arrived at the site, she was met with a surreal scene. Lake waves, combined with winds reaching speeds of around 130 kilometers per hour, had crashed against the house. Layer upon layer of frozen water had formed on the walls, windows, roof, and even the surrounding trees. Large icicles hung from the edges of the roof, giving the entire structure an icy, almost unreal appearance.

She wrote about the conditions in the area: “Some parts here look completely apocalyptic. The strong winds over the past five days have caused significant damage.”
The photos taken by Coco quickly spread across major news networks and went viral on social media. However, the sudden popularity of the images led some users to claim that she had artificially created the scene by spraying water or foam on the house herself.

In response to these rumors, Coco said: “It was really funny when someone accused me of spraying the house with a hose just to make the photos go viral. That is absolutely not true. Everything was completely real.”

The icy house images soon became one of the defining symbols of the extreme cold winter in the Lake Ontario region—showing how nature can transform an ordinary house into an ice-like castle within just a few days during a severe storm.
