SAEDNEWS: In Some Cities of India, Less Attractive Girls Provide Larger Dowries to Compensate for Their Appearance
According to Saednews report, in many traditional cities in India, women who are considered “less attractive” are expected to bring a larger dowry to their husbands. Families reportedly try to compensate for their daughters’ perceived lack of beauty by spending more on dowry payments.
This issue was also mentioned last year in a school textbook in the country, which sparked significant controversy at the time.
India is undoubtedly one of the most traditional countries in the world, with a wide range of customs and traditions—some of which are occasionally seen as unusual or controversial.
Examples include this practice, as well as other customs such as the so-called tradition of beating a bride to prepare her for the responsibilities of married life.
