According to SAEDNEWS, a new study shows that your sleep habits may affect more than your energy level. These habits can also affect the rate at which each organ of your body ages.

Researchers in a study analyzed data from nearly half a million people in England to examine how sleep duration is related to aging in different organ systems.

These researchers used advanced “biological aging clocks” supported by machine learning to measure aging across 17 body systems, including the brain, heart, lungs, liver, and immune system.

The findings showed a U-shaped pattern: people who slept less than 6 hours or more than 8 hours per night showed faster biological aging signs throughout the body. The healthiest aging patterns were observed in individuals who reported sleeping between 6.4 and 7.8 hours per night.

Short sleep was associated with a higher risk of many diseases, including depression, anxiety, obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

Both short and long sleep were associated with respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, as well as digestive disorders such as gastritis (stomach inflammation) and acid reflux.

Researchers say these findings show how strongly sleep is linked to overall body function — not just brain health.

According to these researchers, these findings support the idea that sleep plays an important role in maintaining the health of organs in both the brain and body, including metabolic balance and a healthy immune system.

According to them, future research will examine whether improving sleep habits can help slow biological aging in different organs.
