Maldives? No thanks—we’ve got our own beaches / Exploring the Most Stunning Coastal Cave in Southern Iran That Looks Like a Living Painting 😍

According to SaedNews Tourism Service, southern Iran and the Persian Gulf offer something captivating for every traveler: blue seas, stunning beaches, duty-free zones for shopping enthusiasts, and the unique local culture of southern Iran. Among these, Bushehr stands out as one of the most fascinating southern provinces. No matter what type of travel you prefer, Bushehr has attractions for everyone.

If you long for a quiet beach with dreamy photo opportunities or want to experience an overnight stay on a serene, secluded shore, this guide is for you. Today, we explore one of Bushehr’s most pristine and enchanting beaches: Bonood Beach. Join us on this journey.

Where is Bonood Beach?

Bonood Beach is not just a beach—it’s home to a coastal cave, located a short distance from the village of Bonood. The village, with a population of around 800, lies 35 kilometers from Asaluyeh and 6 kilometers from Chah Mobarak County, making it one of the easternmost villages of Bushehr Province. Fishing is the primary occupation of Bonood residents, so a visit to the beach may reward you with stunning scenes of local fishermen rowing across the water.

Locals have given the beach and cave many names, including “Sea Eye.” Traditional Bonood houses are made from palm leaves and wood. Most villagers are descendants of the fishermen who first discovered the Sea Eye. Experiencing the Persian Gulf from this unique angle is remarkable on its own, but hearing the local stories passed down through generations adds a rich cultural layer to your visit. Be sure to include learning about the local culture alongside your recreational activities.

onood Coastal Cave

Bonood Beach is one of Bushehr’s most pristine and striking shores, distinguished by its coastal cave. The cave has two sections: the first features a relatively small entrance, which opens into a larger water-filled chamber. The water level is even suitable for swimming. The most captivating moment comes when you look out from inside the cave and see sunlight and waves pouring in—an incredible spot for photography.

Iran is home to many caves, including water and salt caves, but discovering a seaside cave is a rare and unforgettable experience. Coastal caves form naturally through wave erosion and are signs of ancient shorelines.

Hawksbill Turtles of Bonood

Bonood Beach is also one of the rare nesting grounds for hawksbill turtles. While Bandar Maqam is better known as a nesting site, hawksbill turtles can also be found along many Persian Gulf beaches, including Bonood. Since these turtles are critically endangered, conservation efforts are essential. Hawksbill turtles are omnivorous reptiles that live 40–50 years, spending most of their lives in ocean waters.

Interestingly, Bonood Beach served as a filming location for the movie Muhammad: The Messenger of God. However, some film-related structures have caused damage to the turtle nesting areas.

How to Get to Bonood Beach

The easiest route to Bonood Beach and its cave is through Asaluyeh. The village is 35 kilometers from Asaluyeh. Most of the route is paved, but the last 5 kilometers to the beach are on a dirt road.

If you plan to visit the Muhammad: The Messenger of God film location, it’s a less-than-20-minute walk from the village parking area. The coastal cave, however, is more challenging to reach and is not recommended for children or the elderly.

Travelers recommend visiting during daylight to avoid getting lost, and some even rent trucks instead of using private vehicles due to the rough terrain. The road has been improved in recent years, making access safer.

Accommodation Near Bonood

Bonood village lacks tourism infrastructure, so overnight stays typically require heading to nearby towns such as Haleh, Chah Mobarak, Kangan, or Asaluyeh. For camping on Bonood Beach, keep these tips in mind:

  • Buy supplies in the village or nearby towns, as there are no facilities on the beach.

  • Prepare for insects with repellents or creams.

  • Secure tents firmly due to wind.

  • Avoid bringing vehicles onto the beach, especially during turtle nesting season.

Activities at Bonood Beach

Though basic in facilities, Bonood Beach offers pristine shores and clear water suitable for swimming (and maintaining cleanliness is up to visitors). Local fishermen offer boating experiences, and remnants from the movie Muhammad: The Messenger of God now serve as photography spots.

Nearby attractions include Pazargad Marine Tourism Village (60 km away) and Nakhl Taghi Beach Park, Iran’s largest beach park, 33 km from Bonood. For water sports enthusiasts, these parks are ideal destinations.

Best Time to Visit

Like the rest of southern Iran, Bonood Beach is warm and humid. Cooler seasons are generally better for travel, though early spring or late summer can also be pleasant. If camping overnight, aim for seasons with moderate temperatures to avoid discomfort from heat, humidity, or heavy rains.

How Many Days to Spend

The ideal duration depends on your travel style. Some visitors may be captivated by Bonood Beach for several days, while others might prefer a short visit before moving on. Visiting the coastal cave usually doesn’t require much time, and for longer trips, you can also explore nearby Lavān Island and Maksar Beach.

Bonood Beach offers an unmatched blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and adventure—a hidden gem in the heart of Bushehr waiting to be discovered.
