According to Saed News’ social affairs service, archaeologists have been conducting underwater investigations off the eastern coast of Salamis Island for several years. Their latest findings include the remains of a sunken city dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries BCE.

The long, narrow building measures approximately 200 feet in width and 105 feet in length. Its size and shape suggest it was likely a stoa—a type of unfortified, elongated structure or corridor, often lined with columns and connected to other rooms.

Experts report that inside the building, they uncovered a treasure trove of objects from ancient Greece, including a collection of pottery, various vases and ceramics, clay objects, marble fragments, and 22 bronze coins.

Among the artifacts, two discoveries from the 4th century BCE stood out. The first is a column fragment adorned with an inscription in a segmented script.

The second notable find is a piece of stone featuring the depiction of a large hand, likely part of a larger relief sculpture with figures projecting from a flat background.

Archaeologists believe these discoveries enhance our understanding of the organization of this ancient city. Salamis is an island located roughly 15 miles west of Athens.
