What Happened in the Phone Conversation Between Araghchi and Lavrov?

According to Saed News political service, citing Fars, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a phone conversation today, Friday, March 27, to discuss regional developments and the consequences of ongoing US and Israeli military aggression against Iran.

The Iranian foreign minister, referring to the efforts of some friendly and neighboring countries to halt the conflict, emphasized that the principled positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the defense of its national rights and interests are fully clear. Araqchi highlighted the continuation of unlawful US and Israeli attacks on various targets, including civilian sites such as schools, hospitals, historical and cultural buildings, and residential areas, stressing Iran’s determination to continue firmly defending the country’s sovereignty.

He stated that the Strait has been closed to American, Israeli, and other vessels involved in these military aggressions against Iran, underlining that preventing the passage of ships belonging to aggressors and their allies is Iran’s legal right as a coastal state. He added that competent Iranian authorities, fully aware of their responsibilities to ensure security and safety in the waterway, have taken necessary measures to defend Iran’s sovereignty and national security and to prevent aggressors from exploiting the Strait for hostile actions.

Araqchi also noted that vessels from other countries can transit the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with relevant Iranian authorities.

Meanwhile, the Russian foreign minister, while reiterating condemnation of US and Israeli aggression, stressed the need to respect the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and expressed Russia’s readiness to continue consultations to help reduce tensions and restore security and stability in the region.
