SAEDNEWS: The commander of the Babol Corps reported that five treasure hunters were identified and arrested in Babol’s Eastern Bandpay district for targeting ancient artifacts.
According to the Saed News Social Affairs Desk, Colonel Mehrdad Babaei of Babol’s Revolutionary Guard reported that, with the efforts of neighborhood-based Basij patrols supported by the Babol Corps’ Operations Deputy, a group of treasure hunters was arrested.
He added that among the five illegal diggers, authorities seized excavation tools, detonators, and homemade explosives.
“All individuals have been referred to the judiciary after their cases were filed,” the official said.
So far this year, more than 20 treasure and antiquities traffickers have been apprehended in the southern highlands of Babol. Eastern Bandpay, a district located along Shaheed Salehi Road about 35 kilometers south of Babol, is one of the county’s six administrative districts.
Babol, a county with a population of roughly 600,000, consists of six districts and seven cities, with Eastern Bandpay being one of its key areas.
