SAEDNEWS: Archaeologists in Peru have discovered a mummy believed to be over 1,200 years old, with some of its skin and hair remarkably well-preserved.
According to the Social Affairs Desk of Saed News Analytical News Website, a mummy—believed to be that of a teenager at the time of death—was recently discovered inside an underground tomb, wrapped in traditional burial textiles.
Archaeologists report that the mummy was found remarkably well-preserved.
While Peru is most famous for the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, it was also home to pre-Hispanic cultures that lived in the region centuries before the rise of the Inca Empire.
The newly discovered mummy belonged to a teenager who lived between 1,100 and 1,200 years ago and likely came from the Lima or Ichma civilization. It was found just 200 meters from the site of the first mummy uncovered in this archaeological complex.
The site, known as Cajamarquilla, contains the ruins of four pyramids and other historical structures, including maze-like walls. After Chan Chan in northern Peru, it is considered the country’s second-largest city built of adobe bricks.
