Parliaments Seen as Pivotal in Strengthening Iran-Azerbaijan Relations

SAEDNEWS: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova highlighted the important role of the two countries’ parliaments in strengthening bilateral relations during a meeting in Baku.

Parliaments Seen as Pivotal in Strengthening Iran-Azerbaijan Relations

Iran’s Foreign Minister visited Baku on Monday for consultations on bilateral relations, as well as regional and international developments, and met with the Speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly.

During the meeting, Araqchi emphasized the important role of the two countries’ parliaments in deepening and consolidating friendly relations. He also highlighted Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan across multiple sectors, including economic, trade, security, tourism, energy, transportation, and culture.

Speaker Gafarova noted the positive trajectory of bilateral ties, stressing that designing and implementing joint economic projects and promoting people-to-people exchanges in economic and cultural spheres are vital for strengthening relations. She further expressed the National Assembly’s readiness to enhance cooperation with Iran’s Parliament.

The meeting, attended by the head and several members of the Iran–Azerbaijan parliamentary friendship group, focused on ways to broaden interactions between the neighboring states, particularly through more effective use of parliamentary capacities and increased consultations between specialized commissions and parliamentary friendship groups.
