When Larijani Masters the Political Game: U.S. Anger and Confusion Over His First Move as Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council

According to the political news service of SaedNews, citing Nameh News, on Tuesday evening, Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, made an interventionist claim, asserting that the U.S. does not support actions that would turn Iraq into a “subservient” government to Iran.

The Iraqi Embassy stated that Iraq does not follow the policy of any country and maintains friendly and cooperative relations with many nations.

In response to the U.S. State Department spokesperson, the Iraqi Embassy in Washington issued a statement affirming that Iraq is a fully sovereign country, entitled to enter agreements and memoranda of understanding in accordance with its constitution and domestic laws.

The statement added: Iraq is not subject to the policy of any country and maintains friendly and cooperative relations with many nations.

The Iraqi Embassy in Washington emphasized that the security agreement with Iran was signed within the framework of bilateral cooperation to maintain security and control borders.

Earlier, the U.S. State Department had made interventionist remarks, declaring that Washington supports Iraq’s sovereignty but does not support plans that would make Iraq subservient to or an agent of Iran.

It is worth noting that last Monday, the Iran-Iraq security memorandum was signed by Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, and Qasim Al-Araji, Iraq’s National Security Advisor, in the presence of the Iraqi Prime Minister.
