SAEDNEWS: Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani said Baghdad seeks a bilateral Iran–US meeting to restart negotiations, while emphasizing domestic stability and an active regional role. He raised the proposal with US Special Envoy Thomas Barrett.
According to the political desk of Saed News, Shargh newspaper reported that Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, Prime Minister of Iraq, shared in an exclusive interview with Al-Mayadeen network his views on the recent election results, regional relations, and his country’s strategic positions, highlighting his government’s focus on domestic stability and active regional engagement.
Al-Sudani stated, “We have now launched a significant effort to arrange a bilateral meeting between Iran and the United States in Baghdad with the aim of resuming dialogue.”
He noted that the issue was raised during a meeting with the U.S. special envoy, Thomas Barrett, adding: “We proposed to the American side to leverage our constructive relationship with Iran to restart the Tehran–Washington negotiations.”
According to the Prime Minister, both American and Iranian sides are not opposed to dialogue in principle, although “each has its own specific considerations.”
Al-Sudani emphasized that “Iran seeks serious negotiations, without threats or imposed conditions, and this perspective is logical and understandable.”
He added, “The nature of our government’s work is to act calmly, even amid significant noise and pressure against us.”
