SAEDNEWS: Iran has committed to a plan to support local manufacturing of solar inverters as the country’s solar power generation continues to surge.

Iran Advances Local Solar Inverter Production

Iran’s Energy Ministry, through its renewables department SATBA, announced on Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the country’s presidential office for science and technology to support domestic production of solar inverters, Press TV reports.

Under the MoU, the Energy Ministry will guarantee the purchase of locally made solar inverters, which convert electricity from solar panels into alternating current (AC) for the national power grid. This agreement is part of Iran’s broader push to accelerate solar power plant installations nationwide.

SATBA head Mohsen Tarztalab told reporters that Iran’s renewable energy capacity reached 2.72 gigawatts (GW) in late October, up from 1.225 GW in August 2024 when the current administration took office. Driven largely by solar energy expansion, capacity is expected to hit 4 GW by late December and 7 GW by the end of the current calendar year in March.

He added that around 571 solar power plants are currently under construction across Iran, with the government aiming to reach 11 GW of renewable capacity before the summer electricity demand peak in July 2026.

Tarztalab also noted that Iran’s wind energy output has risen to 0.371 GW, with SATBA overseeing 1.175 GW of new wind power projects. The country has set an ambitious goal of achieving 30 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2028, part of a broader effort to reduce dependence on fossil fuel-based thermal power plants.
